Essential Oils For Cortisol + Ingesting Essential Oils + Free 3 Day Energy Healing...
Hello,
I really hope you are well, and that you had chance to enjoy the sunshine during our recent heat wave. How wonderful that it aligned with half-term for so many families… and that Bank Holiday Monday was the hottest day in most places. Such a rare occurrence!
We have a bit of saying on Bridport Market, where people can find me selling oils, and providing natural health insights, on East Street, most Saturdays…
It always rains on Saturdays!
(I don’t do the market if it is tipping it down. And, somewhat ironically, I don’t go if it’s blowing a gale. Anything above a projected wind gust of 35 mph, and I’m out!)
So, I’m delighted to report we’ve had two lovely Saturdays on the trot, with a glorious Bank Holiday Monday sandwiched in between. (It’s a shame that things are looking a lot more sketchy for next Saturday!)
In this newsletter:
Some really important insights about essential oils, including a link to the latest essential oil article published on the Wild As The Wind Website…
And, there’s also details for a free 3 day energy healing from Kimberley Quinn, that starts tomorrow… so make sure you sign up today!

Essential Oils That Reduce Cortisol
Cortisol weight gain and general dysregulation is a massive issue these days. Thankfully, essential oils are recognised for their ability to improve mood and help to reverse dysregulation.
This new article is published in the Health News Blog on the Wild As The Wind Website.
It is really helpful for those carrying extra abdominal weight, and / or struggling with emotional health and hormonal issues.

Are Essential Oils Safe To Ingest?
A brilliant question arrived in my inbox this week, courtesy of Deborah S.
The answer provides a very important insight about essential oils…
I have recently bought 3 bottles of orange oil with the purpose of using them to flavour water as stated on the website. My nutritionist has advised not to ingest essential oils as they can damage the mucous lining of the oesophagus.
Please can you advise me if they are safe to use?
Many thanks
Dear Deborah,
Thanks for your email. I am glad to see that you are working with a very dedicated nutritionist. They have a very tough job these days, what with foods from around the globe, and ever-changing farming methods that affect the produce at a fundamental level. Add to that all the different medical protocols and natural health products - there’s a lot to know!
And, of course, they can’t know it all... So, whilst your nutritionist is correct in relation to a lot of essential oils, there are some that are safe to ingest. It’s all a question of nuance really. Essential oils all contain many natural chemicals, some of which are problematic when swallowed, e.g. the eugenol in essential oils like Oregano. Thyme Red Essential Oil should also be avoided due to high levels of chemical compounds like thymol and carvacrol. Oregano Essential Oil also contains carvacrol and eugenol is a minor trace component in Thyme Red Essential Oil.
Some essential oils can contain many chemical components... each are typically composed of 50 to 500 individual chemical compounds. (This is why nutritionists, and even Natural Health Shops, who actually sell the essential oils, tend to have very little insight into the individual oils, and rely on broad brushstroke knowledge. Such complex products would require too much time and dedication to understand in depth, and there’s no professional impetus for a nutritionist to invest the time. Sadly this means that many disciplines within the natural health space just simply advise against using essential oils - even therapists like reflexologists, because it would be too much of a burden to include a section in the training to essential oils.)
Aside from the complex chemistry, another part of the nuanced subject is that Organic Sweet Orange Essential Oil, and other citrus oils, are not ‘exactly’ essential oils. This is because they are expressed from the peel of the fruits, and not steam distilled. It’s possible to get c. 45 drops of oil from the peel of a lemon, and usually c. double that from orange peels.
Oils expressed from fruit peel are not as concentrated as distilled essential oils. They are essentially food strength oils, whereas distilled essential oils can be 50 to 100 times more concentrated than foods.
As many cake recipes call for “the zest of an orange” you would consume more Organic Sweet Orange Essential Oil in a slice of cake than you consume when you add a drop to a glass of water.
So, to confirm... on this basis, it is safe to add a drop of Organic Sweet Orange Essential Oil to your tumbler of water 20 minutes before meals to aid digestion.
However, those with an allergy to citrus fruits, which a small number of us do, then it’s imperative to avoid citrus fruit essential oils.
I hope this allays your concerns.
Your question was such a good one, and the answer so important for people to know, I am reproducing both in my next newsletter. (You will be anonymised under the name Deborah S.) You can join the mailing list on the Health News page of the Wild As The Wind Website.
